This site is on the early history of Auckland and is particularly dedicated to those early auckland settlers and pioneers who made the dangerous voyage from the other side of the world to settle in Auckland, New Zealand. In particular it is dedicated to my own ancestors who were early settlers in Auckland and helped create the early history of Auckland.

Pre-1840.

Auckland had a substantial Maori history and settlement prior to white settlement. Just walking around the many volcanic cones of the city one can see the many kumura pits, terracing and other signs of what were once substantial hill pahs (forts). By 1840 these no longer existed and the area was relatively vacant. In fact some local

Maori invited and sold land to Europeans in the hope of obtaining protection from further violent wars from tribes of the North. The crown would later overturn these land deals for its own benefit. Prior to 1840 most Europeans settling in New Zealand lived in the Wellington area (approx. 1600) where a settlement was established by the New Zealand Company and in Northland at Russell (about 600) and around the Bay of Islands. Few would have predicted that Auckland would become the pre-emienant city in New Zealand with only 2 white settlers in the Waitemata at this time.

Sailing is a great way to discover the beauties of several locations such as the Caribbean islands, Hawaiian Islands, Bahamas, Florida, Greece and many other archipelagos. People can go individually by hiring a bareboat. A bareboat is just a boat without any crew or cook. People on the boat have to do all the cooking, rowing and navigating. People opting for a bareboat may hire a captain, known as a skipper. The skipper would be of great help in navigation and providing information on local details.

Cancun has a large variety of activities available. The hotels are so nice that many visitors are happy to spend their vacation at the hotel. If you want some other things to do here are some activities and approximate US prices as of December 2006. Prices are per adult unless otherwise stated.

as the transportation only trip, but you get a lot more.

When most of us think of the words cruise ship, we envision the Love Boat or the Titanic. Well, not all the time, but often that’s the first thing that comes to mind. Actually, a cruise ship doesn’t have to be that big, and many countries have their own cruise ship lines. A cruise ship is also called a luxury ship, but that doesn’t mean that only rich people can sail on her. You may not find Gopher or Doc on board, but a cruise ship offers a unique way to travel at a slower pace so that you get to know your fellow passengers and are able to intermingle at various venues provided by cruise ship activity and

entertainment directors. Airline or train travel doesn’t allow for such pleasures, nor does driving. For anyone who hasn’t been on a cruise ship, adventure awaits!

The industry:

Freight brokers arrange for the transportation of cargo between shippers and motor carriers. Nearly everything you touch throughout a given day has been transported by a motor carrier. The industry is enormous. Most cargo is shipped with either a dry van, a refrigerated unit (reefer) or a flat bed. Cargo is shipped both within local markets as well as long distance and coast to coast.

Freight brokers, then, seek, identify and get set-up with shippers, manufacturers, growers and distributors who have cargo to transport and who rely upon freight brokers to find motor carriers.
